Gesundheit was founded in January of 2005 by Martina Thornhill and originally produced one-of-a-kind
women's clothing that was carried in multiple boutiques throughout the Pacific Northwest. After a short hiatus she has come
back in 2007 with a new focus on natural children's clothing and home decor. All items are still carefully handmade in Portland,
Oregon and now feature organic cotton, natural linen, vintage details, and simple modern designs.
Why linen?
Linen is crisp, clean and comfortable. Soft, yet strong and durable. It can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture
before it feels damp, and easily releases moisture to the air to remain cool and dry to the touch. Linen is naturally resistant
to dirt and stains, non-allergenic, and has no lint or pilling tendency. It remains colorfast and launders beautifully, becoming
softer and stronger with time and use. The production of flax requires considerably fewer pesticides and fertilizers than
other crops and uses five to twenty times less water and energy than the production of cotton or synthetic fabrics.
